Step Back in Time at Phaya Thai Palace: Bangkok’s Hidden Royal Gem

Phaya Thai Palace, also known as Phra Ratcha Wang Phaya Thai, is one of Bangkok’s lesser-known historical landmarks, offering visitors a quiet yet captivating insight into Thailand’s royal heritage. Nestled near Victory Monument, this former royal residence boasts a charming blend of European and Thai architecture, lush gardens, and fascinating stories from Thailand’s royal past.

About Phaya Thai Palace

Phaya Thai Palace was commissioned by King Rama V in 1909 as a royal retreat. After his passing, King Rama VI expanded the palace and even lived here for several years. Unlike many other royal residences, this palace reflects a more intimate, personal side of Thai royal life, with detailed interiors, classical towers, and tranquil garden settings.

Today, it is managed by the Thai Army and is open to the public for guided tours. The palace also played a role in Thailand’s medical history as it was once converted into a hospital.
